Perfect for the home user I have used many KVMs in server rooms. These industrial-strength boxes are big and expensive because they're designed to allow you to control large number of servers. Another feature of server-oriented KVMs is that they give an audible "chirp" when you switch to a new machine. That's helpful in noisy server rooms when you are switching between servers that have desktops that look mostly alike. But when I wanted a KVM to switch between 2 PCs at home, I wanted something small, inexpensive, and quiet (I most definitely don't want a loud "chirp!" waking up my kids at night). This Linksys is just about perfect. Because it has cables molded in, it is very compact. It switches silently (no chirp), and the video signal is clear and free of jitter or noise even at high res (1280x1024) with high refresh rates. Another customer said that he had some compatibility problems, but I haven't had any. I use a Microsoft optical USB mouse with a PS2 converter (it's a little adapter plug that came with the mouse) and I have used the KVM with a normal Dell keyboard, and with my current ultra-ergonomic Kinesis Classic keyboard. I would have given this unit 5 stars, except that I think the cables would benefit from being just a bit longer. As it is, the unit works well, has excellent compatibility, and is an incredible value. Happy with my KVM switch I am a computer engineer and needed a good quality KVMswitch to connect two computers to one monitor. This smallswitch comes with built in cables and is well built.I connected both a windows box and unix workstation tothe same monitor with no problems. The average user shouldn'thave any problems either since this product is not operatingsystem dependent. This is a wonderful product that I wouldhighly recommend. An A/V - Media Tech Perfect! Well, I was worried about monitor distortion as others have mentioned. Got it anyway and one PC was perfect, the other PC (that had a temporary crappy old PCI video card) actually DID have distortion. NOT the fault of the KVM switch. For kicks, I installed a different video DRIVER for that card, and for some reason it FIXED the problem. Then I put an AGP card back into the 2nd system, and it also worked perfectly. Factors that affect Video Signal: VGA cable too long; Cable extensions, weak video CARD signal (possibly from unreliable POWER supply in the computer), Video cables too close to other cables (power cords and such). If you experience distortion, it would probably happen with ANY KVM switch you buy. After all, you ARE extending your video cable. Worked great with CORDLESS KEYBOARD AND MOUSE. WHAT WOULD MAKE IT BETTER: Heavier gauge shielded video cables, Ferrite bead at the end of each cable... Of course this would also make it and more expensive and bigger. This is a good value.

Works great, but scroll wheel on mouse won't work. If you like using the scroll wheel, forget it, I'm taking mine back for one that supports a wheel mouse. Does not work with Vista and Microsoft wireless keyboard The switch worked fine with my xp laptop but did not work at all with my Vista desktop with a Microsoft wireless keyboard. Heard different responses from Belkin support but finally appeared to be incompatible with Vista and the Wireless keyboard. The switch worked fine when I plugged in a wired keyboard. Was not willing to give up my Microsoft Natural Wireless keyboard for the sake of the switch. So, returned this one and bought a IOGEAR (GCS42UW6) switch which is compatible. Wish the product info mentioned incompatible hardware setups clearly. Could have saved me plenty of time and effort. Prospective buyers please make sure that your hardware setup is compatible with this device before making the purchase. I was told some Microsoft and Logitech wireless keyboards and mice are not compatible with this switch. Hope that helps. Belkin Flip Switch I installed the Belkin F1DF102P 2-Port Remote (PS2) switch on our two computers and it worked without any problems. East to install and preforms as advertised. We are very pleased.

Brand: Avocent Model: 10045 Platform: Windows Format: CD Original language: English Dimensions: 1.32 pounds

Excellent KVM I bought this to replace a different brand rated for up to 1600 x 1280, which caused a very obvious loss of video quality on my LCD monitor 1280 x 1024 @ 60 Hz, analog input. What a difference the Avocent made. I'm running 2 identical LCD monitors from a dual-head card, one connected directly to the computer. Side-by-side, I can't see any degradation at all on the switched monitor. This KVM has a single button. To move from computer B to A, you press it 3 times. I was used to a separate button for each computer, and thought I'd miss that. But switching via keyboard (CTR, CTR, A, Enter) is even easier than reaching for the individual buttons; no software required.Another unexpected advantage is the all-plastic case. Every once in a while, I'd feel a static discharge when I touched my metal KVM, and usually that would disable the mouse and keyboard until the KVM and all computers were rebooted. Doesn't happen with the Avocent. All the connectors on the switchbox are female, i.e, require male connectors on the cable. My video cables were female, so I also bought Avocent cable sets. They're as good as any I've used, despite their moderate price. This KVM is powered from the computers, but also has an input for a 6 vdc 700 mA wall wart, not supplied. The manual (CD only) doesn't say when you'd want to use direct power - maybe with older computers that don't power the keyboard when off.My one email to the company - pre-purchase inquiry about whether it was reasonable to expect no video loss on an LCD -- was answered accurately, same day. I've owned 4 desktop KVMs over the years, and used a number of high-end ones at work. Of those, this is the least expensive but the one I prefer for home or individual work area. I didn't do a lot of research, and can't tell you it's the best one currently available, or the best value. Just that it works well for me and is a whole lot more than I expected for the price. Attention: IBM Netfinity and Netvista users Have been using this KVM for about a week. It works well and I like it...However; If you are considering this purchase and use IBM Netfinity or Netvista computers you should go to Avocent's web site and look at their "Knowledge Base" for Switchview. Apparently the switchview doesn't handle the 2 and 6 pin on the mouse connector properly on these computeres and you need to buy the correct type of cable for a workaround (basically swap the keyboard and mouse cables). This bit me and luckily I purchased Avocent cables and was able to use their workaround. Other than that, this is a good product. Works very well with other computers.

Great device for the price.5
I just needed a basic switch to go between my two boxes I have at my house. One is a XP Professional, and the other is a Fedora 11. Both are shared now to my Dell monitor, keyboard and mouse. I didn't need anything fancy, and with the way my household is having to "tighten the belt", something cheap.

I'm very happy with this, sure it has a slight delay of a couple of seconds but it gets the job done. Which is why I gave it 5 stars. Plus the fact you don't need any power source for it as it gets it's power from the system that's active at the time.

Perfect5
The installtion is so simply. Plug the included cables into your 2 devices. Plug your monitor into the switch.

Thats it! It works perfectly, I switch back and forth between my PC and 360. There is no loss in quality, no ghosting, etc.

Not only that but I have my USB keyboard plugged into the switch, and whenever I switch from PC to 360 (by a push of a button) it also switches the keyboard over. So I can type messages to my friends without the hassle of changing cables. Honestly worth every penny!

Hooking up the Kinamax3
I hooked up an older computer that had PS2 mouse/keyboard and a newer one that uses USB mouse/keyboard. Basically, it works, but the PS2 computer doesn't recognize the USB mouse/keyboard at boot up until you confirm the keyboard is hooked up by pressing F1.

The VGA monitor is hooked up with a DVI to VGA adaptor on both computers, and then feeds into the Kinamax. Although the Kinamax supports higher resolutions, it defaults to 600x800 on the newer computer, a problem for me because I use Photoshop and Premiere that recommends higher resolutions. But if I boot the computer with monitor directly hooked to the computer, then physically unhook and plug the monitor into the Kinamax, it'll display the higher resolution. This isn't a problem with the PS2 computer. I can't figure out why this is.

In short, the Kinamax works. If I boot then hook up the monitor through the Kinamax, I can switch with ease between the two computers. The mouse/keyboard hook up doesn't have any real problems except for pressing F1 during booting on the PS2 computer.
